Cracking the Code of iGaming: Dive into Maths and Data with Our Graduate Programme

Do numbers sing to you, and do you see stories hidden within datasets? If so, the Games Global Graduate Programme might be your perfect gateway to the dynamic world of iGaming.

This year-long programme isn't your typical internship. Forget just fetching coffee – here, you'll be immersed in the heart of the action at our Cape Town and Durban office hubs. We're talking hands-on data analysis, statistical modelling, and applying your mathematical superpowers to real-life games. Our focus? Empowering brilliant minds like yours with the skills and experience to become industry stars.

Today, we meet three exceptional graduates – Minenhle Khuzwayo, Yuseung Nam, and Divashen Narainsamy – who are shaping their futures (and maybe even the next big game) through the Games Global Graduate Programme.

Let’s Meet the Graduates!

Up first: Minenhle Khuzwayo, our Graduate Mathematician!

Hailing from rural KwaZulu-Natal, a strong interest in mathematics and computers blossomed during Minenhle’s formative years. This early passion fuelled his pursuit of a Bachelor's degree in both Mathematics and Computer Science. However, Minenhle’s fascination truly ignited upon encountering the world of statistics and technical assessment leading to a specific area of expertise: the role mathematicians play within the iGaming space.

Q: How has the Games Global Graduate Programme helped you grow as a mathematician?

A: In varsity I focused on maths and statistics, and was unsure how they'd translate to the business world. Data Science or Software Development seemed like the natural paths. Games Global's Graduate programme, however, threw a curveball! It's a unique blend of these fields, allowing me to design engaging games while putting theory into practice. I'm deepening my understanding of mathematics by quantifying game odds, making the abstract beautifully real. This programme is turning textbook concepts into practical expertise, and I'm loving every minute of it.

Q: What new mathematical skills or techniques have you learned since starting the programme?

A: I've gained a deeper understanding of how techniques from Discrete Mathematics and probability statistics can be applied to casino games to enhance the player experience.

Q: What has been your favourite part of the Graduate Programme so far?

A: My favourite part has been working on some of the games set to go live soon, learning, and participating in the entire process from A to Z.

Q: What do you enjoy the most about your role?

A: I enjoy playing with game design and probabilities to ensure players have the best possible experience.

Q: How would you describe the company culture at Games Global?

A: From my first day, everyone has been eager to help, and you’re greeted with smiles everywhere you go. The supportive and friendly environment is fantastic.

Next, say hello to Yuseung Nam, Graduate Data Scientist at Games Global.

Drawing upon a unique background in forensic anthropology and machine learning, Yuseung recently completed a Master of Science in Forensic Anthropology in 2023. Driven by a desire to apply his skills in a dynamic field, this programme provides a platform to leverage Yuseung’s expertise in data science and AI within the ever-evolving iGaming industry.

Q: What have you learned so far during your time in the Graduate Programme?

A: I've gained a deeper understanding of data analytics, statistical modelling, and AI development. The induction programme provided a solid foundation of the company's culture and values, which helped with my integration. I've also improved my skills in Python, statistical analysis, and data exploration, while gaining practical experience in AI projects.

Q: What new skills or technologies have you learned since starting the programme?

A: I've learned to work with Snowflake (SQL), AWS, and advanced machine learning models, along with skills in deep neural networks and computer vision.

Q: What do you enjoy the most about your role?

A: I enjoy being part of cutting-edge AI projects and seeing the practical impact of my work in the gaming industry.

Q: What advice would you give to future graduates looking to excel in a similar role at Games Global or in the gaming industry in general?

A: Embrace continuous learning and curiosity, and seek guidance from colleagues and mentors. Stay updated on industry trends, be open to new experiences, and remain adaptable.

And last but not least, Divashen Narainsamy, Graduate Data Analyst.

A lifelong passion for technology fuelled Divashen's journey from childhood gaming to academic excellence. After graduating with a stellar 92% GPA in IT and achieving distinction in his Honours degree, he was drawn to Games Global for three reasons: the company's explosive growth, a positive experience of a past graduate, and a personal love for the iGaming industry.

Q: What have you learned so far during your time in Games Global’s Graduate Programme?

A: I've been actively expanding my skill set, independently learning Power Automate, Power BI, and Python. For example, I leveraged Python's BeautifulSoup library to web scrape. Another project involved building an automation that extracts information from a Microsoft form and seamlessly uploads it to a Power BI dashboard. Additionally, I've enjoyed testing dashboards, further solidifying my understanding of these tools.

Q: What new skills or technologies have you learned since starting the programme?

A: I've learned to work with advanced data analysis tools, machine learning algorithms, and various programming languages.

Q: What do you enjoy the most about your role?

A: I enjoy the variety of tasks and software I use. Learning and applying new technologies like MSSQL, Power Automate, Power BI, and Python keeps my work engaging. Successfully completing projects like web scraping with BeautifulSoup provides a sense of accomplishment.

Q: What are some challenges you have faced adjusting from being a student to a graduate developer working in the world of software development?

A: Adjusting to the office environment has enhanced my social skills and professional interactions. The support from my manager and team members, along with the excellent content and resources from Games Global University, has made overcoming challenges easier and more collaborative.

Q: How would you describe the company culture at Games Global?

A: Collaborative, supportive, and driven by innovation. Everyone is encouraged to share ideas and contribute to the company's growth and success.

Q: What has been your favourite part of the programme so far?

A: My favourite part has been the hands-on projects and real-world applications of my skills. The continuous learning opportunities from Games Global University and the supportive, collaborative environment have also been highlighted. Working with knowledgeable colleagues has significantly boosted my professional growth and confidence.

Q: Is there anything else you would like to add?

A: My time at Games Global has been a journey of significant technical and professional growth. The hands-on projects, continuous learning opportunities, and supportive environment have been instrumental in this development. Collaborating with cross-functional teams has broadened my understanding of the company's operations and honed my problem-solving skills.
