Stepping into the Future: Exploring the STEP Programme at Games Global
The STEP Programme at Games Global is an incredible government initiative designed to provide undergraduate students with hands-on experience in the Isle of Man during the summer. By pairing local organisations with talented students, this programme offers a platform for growth, learning, and professional development.
This summer, Games Global is taking part in the scheme, hosting three remarkable interns, bringing their diverse skills and perspectives to Games Global. Let's meet Ellie Robb, Christian Forrest, and Kitty Thomas, who are making the most of their time with us.
Meet the Interns! First up, Ellie Robb:
Can you briefly introduce yourself? What are you studying and at which university?
I’m 20 years old and am studying Law at the University of York. I’ve just finished my second year and will be starting my final year in September. Currently, I’m unsure what career I would like to pursue after my course, so I have sought work experience over the summer.
What drew you to apply for the STEP Programme?
The STEP Programme was appealing to me as it offered a rare opportunity for a full-time summer job that is well-advertised and organised, connecting us with great companies for invaluable experience.
What are you most looking forward to during your time with us at Games Global?
I am looking forward to getting to know new people and gaining insight into gambling and the relevant laws.
What are you hoping to achieve and/or learn during your internship?
I hope to gain experience working in an office environment and learn how laws apply to real-world situations.
What specific skills or knowledge do you hope to gain from your project?
I aim to improve my technological skills with programs like Word and Excel, learn to manage my time effectively, and gain a strong understanding of compliance.
How do you think this experience will benefit your future career plans?
This experience will help me decide whether or not I’d like to return to the Island after my degree, offering valuable insight into the opportunities available back home.

Can you briefly introduce yourself? What are you studying and at which university?
I’m currently in my third year studying Physics at Oxford.
What drew you to apply for the STEP Programme?
The opportunity to do something interesting over the summer that could enhance my CV and keep me close to home for easier accommodation and lesson arrangements.
What are you most looking forward to during your time with us at Games Global?
I’m excited to see the inner workings of an e-gaming firm and understand how they generate revenue through analytics.
What are you hoping to achieve and/or learn during your internship?
I hope to contribute meaningfully to product evaluation, learn about business strategy, and gain insights into the US gambling market.
What specific skills or knowledge do you hope to gain from your project?
I aim to enhance my standard Office IT skills, data analysis and statistical skills, and understanding of workflows and teamwork.
How do you think this experience will benefit your future career plans?
This experience will be valuable for my career in technical and mathematical fields, helping me understand my work patterns and handle complex, real-world problems.
Lastly, let’s meet Kitty Thomas:
Can you briefly introduce yourself? What are you studying and at which university?
I have completed two years at the University of Sussex, studying Law and French.
What drew you to apply for the STEP Programme?
I learned about the STEP Programme through my brother, who participated in a previous year and found it highly beneficial. I believe this programme inspires young people from the island to find jobs that align with their studies and helps them stand out by demonstrating initiative.
What are you most looking forward to during your time with us at Games Global?
I am excited to meet and work with individuals from diverse backgrounds, expand my professional network, and understand the legal work within an e-gaming company.
What are you hoping to achieve and/or learn during your internship?
I hope to achieve satisfaction from my project, receive constructive feedback, and be a valuable asset to the company.
What specific skills or knowledge do you hope to gain from your project?
I aim to apply my legal knowledge in a corporate environment, gain insights into legal documents used in a company, and learn how the business operates.
How do you think this experience will benefit your future career plans?
This experience will provide greater clarity on my future career plans, helping me determine if I enjoy and excel in this type of work and explore various opportunities and roles in the legal field.
